This is the principal element of the rescue system in paragliding.
We see the imprtant it is when we have to use it, but we have to think on it before!
There are 2 types of parachutes: Round parachutes and Rogallo.
- Classical or rounded
- PDA
- Double canopy
- "steerable"
- Rogallo type
Classic:
The most popular parachutes.
The PDA (Pull Down Apex) has only one canopy. These has the fastest opening time of the classic ones. Also ther are the less stable and the cheapest.
The next step are the double canopy Segueixen els de Double canopy, these are just an evolution of the PDA. These are a little more stable but these has a little slow opening time.
There are a "steerable" PDA parachutes, but only are orintable, these hasn't horitzontal speed.
Rogallo type:
This is the newest design in parachutes. It comes from Francis Rogallo, a NASA engineer. This is the antecessor of Hang Glider too, and now for a parachute. It has enormous advantatges, it has an aerofoil profile, so it has horizontal speed and an L/D of 2 or 3 points. The speed is aprox. 20 Km/h and the sink rate is about 3,1 m/s.
This performance allow us to fly to a safe landing field and land as we do with our paraglider.
This parachute is the Vonblon Papillon.
See this vídeo where a paramotor pilot throw his Papillon reserve and flies with it.
We are dealers of Vonblon.
